Oh come on, surely you have seen more ridiculous things on here, it is an internet comments section after all.

Just because they put it in a contract or EULA does not make it legal or above the law. If that were true then you could get people to work for less than minimum wage.
__________________________________________________________________________

There are, they are called part time workers. Only full time workers get minimum wage.

Also, anyone can track you, only the government needs warrants and other legal paperwork to search you, not track you. Ever heard of "surveillance"? Just an eye in the sky, and with all the cameras everywhere today, you are never alone...

[citation][nom]irtehyar[/nom]Meh. Apple is already telling me what I need and don't need (flash?), and what I like. They might as well know where I'm doing it. That way they can make products that only work in specific locations, because it's better there.[/citation]

I don't consume Apples and I'll tell ya Flash is bad. I won't say why or hint that I know exactly, but just simply say its bad for you and a security risk.

I'm wrapped up in symbolism enough that I personally would never "purchase" or "use freely" any Apple device, even at a loss of abilities.

To generalize like that is definitely dumb but overall if I'm happier opting out then it becomes less dumb. Alternatively, if opting in makes you happier, by all means, go for it. Afterall, trading one greedy corp for another nets similar results anyhow.

I prefer a dumb phone because I have no use for any type of smartphone. That's where I start looking at people oddly that choose to have smartphones who clearly do not need most of its abilities that make it smart in the first place. People buy iphones because they like to swipe their pictures with their finger, for example. That's a lot of extra expense for a feature.

Anyway, if the data is unencrypted, which it is stated as being, then Apple dropped the ball really hard even if its only a perceived threat that is never realized or actually happens. In this day and age, any company should know full well the expectations of its consumers as well as or better than its 3rd party affiliates.

There's been many a company who've lost in court because the EULA was "so" complicated that a normal person wouldn't even be able to understand it.

This is like Google "accidentally" pulling data off of wifi networks. My pasty white a$$ - "accidentally"....Pffft

[citation][nom]nicklasd87[/nom]Please don't feed the troll[/citation]
To me, this is not a troll. Not even an apple user. Also not working for advertisement companies.
He is just making a show of how apple users think at times, the "I don't need to chose whether I multitask and drain my battery or not" and "I don't need to chose whether I open flash or not with the expense of less security and battery", or "since I am a stupid human that can't control myself, I need the mighty lord Steve to prevent me from degenerating via porn".
Simple version: "why do I need to multitask?" or "why do I need flash?", or "why do I need porn?"
Apple users are not renown for the critical view or for desire for freedom.

Some of the scenarios that some people paint here about what could happen to you if that information got out. I would like to know how often is someone really planning on kidnapping me or planning to invade my house. If you're worried about that then maybe you're hanging out with the wrong group. Or as one poster said what if the government were to implant a GPS device in our bodies and fingerprint everyone. That's the government this is not connected to Apple. I think the problem most are having is that why wasn't permission asked. It was when you signed up for the iPhone. Read your contract and EULA next time and quit your whining. Maybe that will teach all you sheep who got into long lines to buy that phone. Maybe some people will dump and we can get some bandwidth back from you people.

Personally I think this is a bug then anything malevolence. It probably suppose to record the last few places you are for "location services" but someone forgot to add a delete function to remove old entries.
Just think about it if you keep adding data sooner or later someone going to notice a giant file taking up all the memory that does nothing, like in this case.

A bug like the bug that shows wrong reading in the signal strength. Maybe. If iSteve says so.

p.s. It's not malevolence. It's, hmmm... as Google says... offering you the best experience in commercials targeted to you, so you don't bother when you have a chance to purchase something.

The last thing I want is for everyone that has access to the decryption key to find out how many times I have gone to the lou. Leave alone track my every move for a year. None of ANYBODY'S business... Now I am sure the iPhone isn't the only device that can store, have stored or transmitted such data. Don't like it ? don't get a cellphone, smart phone, Any"G",LTE anything. else eveybody is lowjacked. it's been that way since GPS, Onstar, Cell Towers.. need I go on? It's bad enough you can "Check In" or have your friends "Check you in" on Facebook. If I wished for anyone to know my location I will send them a text with the address, Lat and Long if I am a smart ass.. best yet . just go to where they are and call it even. Thank God I have a Droid. ( just as bad ... yes but not as snooty, stuck up, closed and other wise an expensive pain in the data collective ass. )

The ability to spy or track people through the use of electronics is apart of the Patriot Act.
There is no longer a law against this. Anyone notice how paper money is quickly fading away ?
Direct deposit is mandatory at many places, certain things cannot be paid for in high amounts of cash.

"Oh, really? So you think the only people who don't wish to be spied on and have privacy are criminals? Then good sir I challenge you. For every moment of your life I want you to tell me exactly where you plan to go, where you go, and what you do. To the exact detail. If you go over a girlfriends house, I want to know when, where, why, as well as the events that take place."

for this we have have facebook, twitter, foursquare and so one. i have an iphone and it doesn't bother that maybe some stranger could know that mrs. X from Y went last night to Z. and who knows me could use other info to rob me or could obtain it in a easier way.

Actually this would be great for a criminal (a smart one anyway). They can take their phone somewhere else and leave it there when they carry out their naughty deeds. Then, if for whatever reason they get questioned about it they can say "Look! I was here when that happened so it couldn't have been me!"

If Apple doesn't offer a way (in the Settings) to disable this tracking feature, then they are screwwwwed!
I hear class action...

[citation][nom]ReggieRay[/nom]Mr Jobs is pals with the Obozo regime and they are doing it for the FEDS. Fraulein Janet Napolitano and her army of Gestapo goons, Zeich Heil, has to watch their enemy, the American people, Seig Heil. No more Apple products for me Ubuntu will be my next laptop, I may even look into replacing OS X on my Macbook Pro with Ubuntu.[/citation]
I have nothing against the Gov. But I'm with you on the FED's involvement, maybe to some small extent. Although, sadly, it can not be proven.

Big Business likes tax breaks, incentives, etc., and a lil quid pro quo might include a method of tracking available through a given device. So because you may want to seperate government and big business, our government is a big business and a whore, in bed with everybody.

Big suprise, though since it says it in the user agreement no one has the right to complain. Still this doesn't improve my opinion of Apple one bit.
