the lan connected laptop is not able to share its internet with connected devices.why? how should I fix it?

My laptop has internet access since I have connected it to the LAN. My phone has connected to the wifi of my laptop but there is no internet access on the phone. The phone has just barely connected with no internet actually working in it.
In the network sharing settings it shows the wifi name too. But no internet access.Please help me in accessing the laptop wifi on my phone.
