Many laptop USB ports are rotated 90 degrees so that connecting this device wouldn't be practical without an extension cable, even if it did something worthwhile. As a matter of fact the Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad the girl in the photo is using has this configuration so in reality she couldn't even have it connected to the laptop.
Somehow I think there's more here than meets the eye. If I can be heard over the sarcasm, maybe this is a way to create a text file from writing on a piece of paper. And why couldn't a short USB extension cable be used so the device can sit flat on a desk? Sorry if I spoiled the fun with some logic.
I previously invented a cup holder that opens and retracts on the front of a desktop PC. Someone else beat me to the patent but included a "CD-ROM" logo on it. Due to similarities I was unable to obtain my patent.
Well, if it did digitize what you wrote it would have been useful. As for breaking the USB port and left-handed people, this can be solved using a USB extension cable...if the thing was useful that is.
Well if it was from Apple, it would be the Ipaddie.
If there is more than meets the eye, great, I could actually see some use if the device not only digitally captured the writing but stored a copy on itself as well. A cord is required too, my wife is a the killer of laptop USB ports. ( I tell her each time she breaks a USB, "I may not be able to get replacement parts", we've always been lucky that I'm handy.
Reminds me of the send-up X-Play did of Steve Jobs selling his game console. No cables, no controller, no media ports, no CPU, no storage, no video. It was just ...a box. But ...Steve Jobs makes it a trendy, coooooool box.

Make it recirculate the hot air from the exhaust to keep my coffee warm and I'll buy it.
