Hi!

What do you guys think of this laptop. Mainly Work, watching videos and maybe light gaming only.

For the price it looks good, like have a look at this laptop below in comparison for the same price, its only got 1gig ram opposed to 2gigs from the first one and 8400M G instead of a HD2400, not much difference here I would have thought. Also the one below has XP whilst the one above has Vista Premium.

Cost is more or less identical, so I was thinking of gathering your thoughts before I decide. Should I go with the first one, worth the money when comparing to other laptops similar to it in price?

I'd get the first one just for the extra RAM. Not sure if there is much of a difference between the 8400gs and the HD2400, but if there is it shouldn't be much. You just have to be willing to live with Vista on the first.

Is Vista that bad

Oh and is a jump from intergrated graphics in laptops to a HD2400 worth it in terms of price/peformance.

Vista isn't either bad or good. It has some nice features and then it has its pitfalls (some compatibility issues). I've used both XP and Vista, I still use XP only because I game and Vista lowers performance a little.

As far as integrated over dedicated, it depends on what it's being used for. If you want to play any games, go for a dedicated card. If you just plan on web surfing and movie watching, integrated should do fine.

You know I think I just landed a better deal

Dell Inspiron 1520
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5250 (1.5GHz,667MHz,2MB L2 cache)
Windows Vista Home Premium
Jet Black Colour with Matte Finish & 2.0mp camera
15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife
2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery

Getting £100 off so I can stay under £600. Total cost £569
Biggest difference is the graphics card although the cpu is a little weaker.

Better deal, Good quality build?

And by the way are laptop batteries upgradeable?

Is it worth the £70 difference from going from a T5250 (1.5GHz,667MHz,2MB L2 cache) to a T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB

Or for £60 more T5550 (1.83 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)

I don't know much aout Intel cpu's on the laptop side, so help would be much appreciated.

Just a random question even though it can't be compared to desktops, how good are the mobile cpu's.

I'll be making the order today so any feedback will be helpful. Thanks

i don't think 1.6 Ghz in asus and 1.5 ghz in this would be noticable, but swtching from 1.6 to 2.0 will be noticable performance impact
