Thinkpad 600 not charging

My daughter's Thinkpad 600 is not accepting DC input from the AC
adaptor. Consequently the battery is flat.

It's out of warranty and is here in the UK.

The AC adaptor checks out OK, the DC input socket has continuity to
the system board. There is continuity between the DC negative and the
negative pin of the battery connector.

The IBM FRU manual (09n1033) is unclear on where the DC charging
function is. The IBM partlook up website suggests that subboard
05K3561 TIGERSHARK DC-DC CARD is the offending part.

Can anyone confirm this as I don't want to buy a new one
unnecassarily. Alternatively are there any other causes of the
problem? I've checked all the fuses out on the system board and
they're all OK.

Thanks in advance.

The battery is probably dead! It happens after a while.

I don't think so. Surely if the AC adaptor is plugged in the computer
should work regardless of the condition of the battery, or even with
the battery removed.

Anyway, there's enough capacity remaining in the battery to let is
start booting up.

Sometimes the connection power plug on the laptop gets screwed up.
Once you insert the plug, try forcing it slightly and holding it at an
angle. (left,right....)
I know this doesnt help much, but give it a go. Good luck.

No, the socket makes a good connection with the system board, and the
plug makes a good connection with the socket - I can measure the DC
input voltage off the back of the socket.

I was hoping it was that simple, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to
be.
