After three tries getting frustrated. A22m is supposed to be able to take 512 megs of pc 100. I currently have the 256 megs that it came with and bought 512 megs pc100 144 pin sodimm. Bought it according to the laptop model and sub type (2628 TTU). It does nothing with the new ram only installed. With both the old and new stick I get a extended memory error. BIOS shows 768 megs of ram. Flashed the BIOS and still no luck. What's the trick?

Solution
It's likely that the motherboard will only accept 512MB of RAM total across both slots - you need two sticks of 256MB, not a single 512.

That IBM series is rather finicky about memory, though, speaking from experience.
