Hello all. I am torn between two laptops.
This one:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/469303/Aspire_E5-575-5493_156"_Laptop_Computer_-_Obsidian_Black;_Intel_Core_i5-7200U_Processor_25GHz;_Microsoft_Windows_10_Home;_4GB_DDR4_RAM;_1TB_5,400RPM_H?storeID=191&gclid=Cj0KEQiAk5zEBRD9lfno2dek0tsBEiQAWVKyuOuTQYnLS0qZMGOwEDICDbqjWCNUaJTNa0B3lxbgOKAaAvZV8P8HAQ

Which has the i5 7200u, but only a 1366x768 resolution.

And this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01K1IO3QW/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Has an i3 7100u but a full HD display.

They appear to be mostly identical other than those 2 points. I am going to use it to mainly chrome cast and surf the Web while casting movies. Occasionally I will do some word processing. Basically I will just be using it while watching TV or watching movies if I am out on vacation.
My question is, which one should I get? Is the processor THAT much better and worth giving up full HD? Or are the differences in the processors not really noticeable? So better processor or better display? Which one would you guys choose? (I also plan on getting another 4Gb stick of ram and an m.2 drive for the OS/programs if that makes a difference)

Thank you for any suggestions.

They are very similar processors. Both have hyperthreading, TDP of 15 watts, HD 620 graphics(which is pretty impressive), same amounts of L1,2,3 Cache and more importantly, both Kaby Lake.

The difference being, the i5 comes with a boost clock up to 3.1Ghz, whereas the i3 does not come equipped with the boost clock feature. Additionally, the i5 has a slightly higher stock clock frequency at 2.5Ghz, while the i3 comes in below at 2.4Ghz. Not a difference you will notice, but the boost clock that the i5 offers will be noticeable.

I've had to sit here and think about it for about 5 minutes, as it's a hard choice. So my thoughts are as follows.

Yes, your movies, images, videos and maybe games(I doubt you'll be able to run a lot of games...

well i think the one with kaby lake i5 and 1080p display is not really expensive, but i think it is more worth for you to get the one with i3, as your primary usage is not for gaming which you could save more for upgrade in the future. the difference will not noticed if you only using it for such that thing, but if you use it for gaming, editing, heavy app then it would noticeable

I would go for the i3-7100u and the 1080p screen. The i3 is more than enough for your needs and the 1080p allows you to see more information on the screen at once. However, you cannot simply install m.2 SSD in that laptop. It lacks a standoff for it; that basically means while the interface itself is there for you to insert the SSD, there is no screw to hold it in place. You will need to contact Acer to get the standoff.

Yes, your movies, images, videos and maybe games(I doubt you'll be able to run a lot of games at 1080p with HD620 graphics) will look better on the 1080p screen. However, in day-to-day tasks, you'll see the benefit of the i5.

So I would say go with the laptop that comes equipped with i5.
