Toshiba A505-S6980 dead

Was using it and made a sound like a fuse blowing and immediately stopped.
Now don't get a power light or any response at all.
Do they have a internal fuse?

Hi Ronald, just thought I'd post an ending to this little saga.
I took a punt and purchased a new motherboard.
Machine is now running like new.

I had almost the same problem. My friend's laptop (a505) wasn't powering on. I tested the power at the power jack and found that it was only getting about 4.5 volts so I ordered a replacement power jack and installed it. Still no signs of life. I tried so many things before just ordering a second-hand motherboard from ebay. I installed the motherboard when I received it and the SAME thing... no life. I thought maybe it was the power switch so I got a new switch and installed it... still nothing. Apparently there are some instances where a bad component will short out the motherboard and cause it to not turn on. So I attempted to get the fan on the motherboard running by only hooking up the power jack, motherboard and power switch. I got nothing at all. It is really hard to believe that I got a second faulty motherboard. I don't understand this at all. I am starting to suspect the AC adapter is bad even tho I'm getting the correct 19.5 volts from my reading. At this point I'm pulling my hair out. I have tried nearly everything. I have googled nearly everything. If you guys have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks.
