Toshiba laptop hash key typing pound symbol

My Toshiba Laptop Satellite Pro C850-10V types a pound symbol when when I press the hash key. why?

It seems that the input language has been accidentally changed in your laptop.

Can you please tell which operating system are you using?

In case of Windows 7 or greater, you can:

> Go to Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language.

> Go to the Keyboards and Languages tab.

> Click the Change keyboards button under the Keyboards and other input languages section.

> From the Installed services list available in the General tab of the opened Text Services and Input Languages box, move the English (United States) language to the top.

> Click OK to save the changes and if needed, restart the computer.

> Try to type the hash symbol. The issue should be resolved by now.
