I have a C655-S5543. Hilariously, it's run Roblox, Terraria and etc for over a decade now, at over 40 fps. I've only upgraded the ram. (From 4Gb- 8 Gb.)
This gave it a little pep, but I'm really curious, is the i7-3840QM compatible with this generation? Currently it has a slow (but resilient!) B960. I found the i7 for a great price. Same socket, slightly more power? Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, will this work?

Your laptop uses the HM65 chipset.

Here is a website that shows potential upgrades. Consult the user manual before attempting anything.

Now that's what I'm talking about! I could not for the life of me find that information. Looks like someone else there even attempted this with the same 960 I have. Splendid! Thank you for your research and assistance! I hope you have a wonderful day! 😊

It's really not very difficult.

All I did was look at the user manual to find out what motherboard it had, then looked up pictures of the motherboard, found one with a decent resolution that had the chipset visible, and then googled the SSpec of the chipset.

While any of those could fit, your answer doesn't account for any of the concerns I had, like power consumption, etc, I already had access to the list of chips that'd work.
I never said it was difficult. I already knew what chipset I had. Thanks again.

Sure you did.

...right :)

Your original post doesn't mention any of your concerns, only asks if it will work.

If you look at the list of CPUs, all of the Ivy Bridge CPUs are 35W or less. HM65 has a lot of trouble with 45W CPUs and will crash randomly.

your current cpu https://www.intel.ca/content/www/ca...or-b960-2m-cache-2-20-ghz/specifications.html
i7 cpu https://www.intel.ca/content/www/ca...r-8m-cache-up-to-3-80-ghz/specifications.html
as you can see they are 2 different families & will also depends if the bios can run that i7 cpu.
have you thought about replacing the mechanical hard drive with a ssd version which is about 10x faster then the mechanical hard drive?

I wasn't aware that i7 was an ivy bridge. Also I forgot about the hard drive, good idea! Ty for those provided links, they were very helpful.
