Toshiba satellite DC power fuse and battery drainage

The battery of my Toshiba satellite S955 laptop was not charging and I know it is not the charger but as it turned out it is the fuse on the DC power on the motherboard. As a quick test, I connected a wire across the fuse to test if the battery charges and it does: the charging light is ON and on windows it shows it is charging. However, it is not! It is actually draining super fast and I lost whatever was left in it in minutes. I know I should not bypass the fuse the way I did, but I am wondering if someone knows what is causing the fast draining and is there something else I should be looking at other than the fuse? Well, when the charging circuit is connected and working the usual reasons for a battery draining fast are... 1. There are one or more programs running on the system that are using massive amounts of power, 2. There is a form of malware or virus on the system that is causing the drain, 3. The battery is actually going bad, making it only drain part way, so it only charges part way. Making it seem to drain faster, but that is only because there is less 'space' that is holding a charge.

I agree with your points but it looks more like a circuit issue. The laptop works fine with normal drainage when on battery without the shorted fuse. It is only when I shorted the fuse to check if it solves the problem of the battery not charging that I started to have the fast drainage.

Well, if you feel comfortable doing the work, you can change the fuse alone, rather than the whole board.

Sort of feel comfortable, but I am not sure if I can do it with my soldering iron or whether I need a hot air/hot tweezers. The problem now is that I cannot tell what type of fuse I need; it only has a P500 marking on it. I found that a "P" refers to 3A, but the adapter is rated 19V, 3.42 A, so maybe I need a 24V - 5A fuse? It could be that this is what the "500" refers to. Any idea about how to tell the fuse rating if I don't have the schematics?

That one I can't answer for you. I don't have enough knowledge about that board.
