Tower to tv

I just got a a cable to connect a PC tower to my TV it is a VGA to HDMI it works fine for a couple minutes or less but then it exits and says no signal found I am using a Compaq computer tower and it connects to monitors fine but not the TV I am using a roku smart TV but I am not sure what brand the cables are it turns on and goes to the login screen and then it turns off

Does it also take power from USB?

I assume this is an "active" adapter, since you're converting Analog (VGA) to Digital (HDMI). It would have to be, to get any sort of display - and, while non-powered adapters are sold (for some reason), they're not exactly reliable. They really should have additional power, either from the wall or from USB.

If it is a powered converter then do you see the desktop after the PC boots up?
Try setting the PC video resolution to match the resolution of the TV.
