Solved! Trobleshoot gateway laptop model no : solo 5300

Hello,
My friend has a gateway laptop model # solo 3500.She bought it used and didn't get the installation diskette with it.I really don't know much about computers,but they don't have much money and I thought I would see if someone could help me.She dropped the laptop and now when it starts to boot it comes up media failure check cable feed.Then a small window pops up and says load the disk that come with it.Is there anything I can do without that disk?Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the hard drive may have been damaged in the drop. Her best bet may be to try and find a new hard drive or bring it to a computer repair shop and see what they have to say.
