Trouble connecting Apple TV to Vizio

Hi
We have a new Vizio Smart TV E400i-B2 and an Apple TV. We are not "techie" and are having problems making the two devices talk to one another. We have plugged everything in and the apple TV is on but when we pull HDMI-1 it shows not connected. Can you help?

Apple TV can sometimes not play well with others. Try a different HDMI input and HDMI cable. Also make sure it is fully on before selecting the input or turning on the TV. You can also try reversing that and turning it on after the TV.

There's only one HDMI input but will go out and get another cable this afternoon and give it a try.
