Trying to hook my vizo TV up to a samsung sound bar by using the optic connections. Couldn't get any sound thru the sound bar

Trying to hook my Vizio TV to a samsung sound bar by using the optic connections. I couldn't get any sound thru the sound bar last night what am I doing wrong??

1. Check the TV audio menu to make sure that the optical out is on. On some TVs the internal TV speakers have to be off.
2. Try changing the audio output type in the TV audio menu.
3. Make sure you have selected that input on the soundbar. The TV volume control will not control the volume of the soundbar.
