Trying to watch movies that are downloaded can't get it to play

What's a thread I am new at this all I what to do is watch a movie

I have a friends laptop but I can't get it to play movies that he downloaded they were playing I turned it off and now it won't play

Try restarting the laptop (turn it off and back on) and see if that resolves it. Also, make sure you are trying to start the movies in the right program. Not all types work in all types of applications.

-open downloads folder where movie is located;
-open VLC player latest version side by side to the folder;
-drag and drop movie file onto VLC window;
_enjoy.

Or, you could ask your "friend" since it is their laptop.
