TV won't recognize laptop via HDMI

I have been connecting my laptop to my older tv by HDMI with no problems for as long as I can remember. I recently bought a new 4K UHD tv and the tv will not recognize the laptop, my laptop will recognize the tv however. Is this fixable or is it because my laptop resolution doesn't go to 2160 (or whatever it is)?

U may have to install a specific driver from the TV vendor.
