Yes! Perchance one updates (or is that called flashing) ones' BIOS and it happens to be the same version already installed, will the BIOS update over itself or can that cause damage?

It will update over itself, but like any bios update, there are small risk of bricking your laptop

Thank you for the reply. Apart from the risks as you say, updating over itself won't hurt itself then, correct?

It will also reset any settings back to default

Back to default? Do you mean by that, that it sets itself to the original BIOS setting when the computer was new?

When the motherboard was new. Settings might have change for installing OS for example.
