So, I'm looking at buying a laptop here and I'm trying to decide what options I'd like. First of all, I'm buying it so it can be my mobile workhorse for college when I go on the road. As a side note I'd like a moderate gaming machine. Nothing too fancy, I like mainly RTSs and light RPGs. Just something to do when I'm done with work and have time to kill.

So far I'm looking at a 15.4 in display with 256 GeForce Go 7600. 7200RPM 80GB HD. 1GB DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667Mhz. Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66Ghz w/ 2MB Cache.

Recently I've acquired about 200 additional dollars to spend on it, so for that I can either upgrade to 2GBs of RAM, or I can get the Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 at 2.0 GHz w/ a 4MB Cache.

For longevity of the upgrade, I realize that getting a faster processor earlier on will be better because I can upgrade the RAM later. However, I'm wondering if the T7200 is really worth going without the 2GB of ram for the next year or so. Because honestly, if I get the 1GB (512x2) now, that means I will have to totally replace it later with 2GB (1GBx2). And that will be a pricey endeavor indeed.

Opinions? I greatly appreciate it.

It would actually be better to focus on the ram and hard drive speed (7200 RPM) would be more beneficial than a processor based on what you use it for. The T5600 with a 2MB cache is only slightly slower than the T7200 with the 4MB Cache. I would go with the T5600 and put more emphasis on your RAM and HD.
