Upgrade T2050 to T7200 cpu Dell Inc MM061

My motherboard is an MM061. Haven't cracked the case yet. (E1505). I want to make sure it will take a Core 2 T7200 before I order one. I'm upgrading the RAM and HD too. This being a 2006 model, the upgrades look fairly cheap.

Based on the reported success of others upgrading a MM061 you should be able to do that upgrade.

Just don't expect a marked increase in performance. You'll be swapping out one low-mid range CPU for another low-mid range CPU.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have my heart set on a T7200. But from researching Dell,I thought it was "the" upgrade being a core 2. If the board will except a chip that would make a noticeable increase in performance , I'd be after that instead. I just want to make sure that I can support it. - Bill

Yes, you will be able to upgrade the cpu to a T7200. I also have the e1505 which was running a single core T13xx then upgraded to 1.83ghz 2m cache core duo t2400. Now I'm running the 2.00ghz 4mb cache core 2 duo T7200. A noticeable upgrade especially since I game on this laptop. Games which were not playable before are now very playable and benchmarks such as 3dmark05 have increased as well. I had also upgraded from a geforce 7300go to a radeon x1400 which contributed quite a bit to the performance of the laptop.

If you are comfortable using a screw driver, its very simple to do.

These links show you how to dissasemble your laptop. You will need to apply some thermal paste on your new T7200 cpu and clean the copper portion of the heatsink with isopropyl alcohol

Make sure you update to the lastest bios from dell. A17

Thanks, I'm comfortable. I've tore it down once, sans cpu. I'm usually ripping PC's apart so I'm just being careful. I'm going to upgrade and see what happens. Thanks. - Bill
