Upgrading laptop CPU please help

Hey guys, I really need some help with this upgrade.
What I would like to do is upgrade my Celeron processor to a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo. I desperately want to get rid of this solo core processor and put a dual core processor in the laptop. I've only ever worked in a desktop before, is it as simple as that or would I have to take it to a store to be done for me.

So my question is what processor will fit into my laptop. I've looked and found a few but I'd like to see what you guys find before I go ahead with this.

I hate to say this, but according to this page, it looks like your motherboard only supports the Celeron processors: http/ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=35507

Well, if someone's done it, I guess it's possible. I was just going off the info that Intel was providing for their chipset. Based on that thread, some people are having issues with 800 FSB CPUs working properly so you'd need to find one that had a 667 FSB.

If they have the same clock speed (say both run at 2.1ghz) then no, there probably won't be much of a difference. Certainly not noticeable for everyday tasks.

Just a quick note to say I have the Acer version of that laptop on the way (Extensa 5230 something I think) and I also have a T4300 processor I got off eBay for $40ish and will be attempting this soon.

That GL40 chipset appears to support 35W, standard voltage, Socket P processors. Hence:

Celeron Single-Core 900
Celeron Dual-Core T3000
Celeron Dual-Core T3100
Pentium Dual-Core T4200
Pentium Dual-Core T4300

The T4300 processor is in and I'm posting from it now.

Windows noted a good speed increase (CPU score from 4.4 to 5.4 and memory score went from 5.1 to 5.4) but PassMark benchmarking noted NO changes.

It does run just as cool as the Celeron 900 2.2GHz chip did. 37-40C most of the time, 48C max, 30C cold idle after booting and sitting at the desktop for a few minutes. This is only 2 degrees hotter than the Celeron at max and during use. The idle temp is actually 2 degrees cooler.

It may not win speed contests but it FEELS quicker. No more lagging because of single core limitations. I can run my browser, PowerPoint, PS Elements, and iTunes all at the same time and nothing gets jittery like it did before I did the CPU swap.
