Hello,

I currently have a sony viao ultrabook that I've owned for a number of years and am thinking of updating my setup. I am a computer programmer, so I need something with reasonable performance for running multiple development tools.

My current setup -
Sony Vaio SVT131A11L (link)
Intel Core i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz
12GB DDR3 RAM (4GB onboard + 8GB in second slot)
32GB SSD + 500GB HD
Touchscreen

I'm looking at the following machine -
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3460
14" 1600x900 Notebook PC,
Intel Core i7-3667U 2.0GHz,
8GB DDR3 Memory,
180GB SSD

will I see much better performance from the thinkpad than what I'm seeing from my current setup? I'm hesitant to pull the trigger if I won't see much of a performance improvement.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Well....then you will also see an improvement running apps with the Lenovo, but you could throw a cheap SSD into the SONY and basically get the same thing.

I guess I just don't see the whole upgrade as much of a jump.
I don't think you are going to see a big difference.

The i7-3667U is only about 33% faster than the i5-3317U and I don't see anything else that's going to speed up the Lenovo.

The memory is roughly the same.

You already have an SSD in the Sony......so....the main improvement you will see is about a 33% increase in CPU speed,

The SSD is only for the OS - the 500GB HD is not SSD.
