Explain to me again why China remains on the "most favored nation status" with the U.S.? Oh, yeah... it's the trillions of dollars we owe them because we won't raise enough taxes to pay for the things we want here.

Wow, is porn all you guys can think of??? Even the ones "against it" seem oddly fixated with it to the point of missing the bigger picture that its the critism of government and free flow of ideas that the chinese government is trying to impede... sheesh.

Hilarion i believe you just placed your foot firmly in your mouth also :D information is power in this day and age, but it can be used to hurt alot of people, to say that one country censoring for the sake of looking good and to spread propaganda, and that another country taking a cautionary measure against a cyber attack are the same thing does not look the same to you... have you actually looked whats on sorceforge??? they might not have the most state of the art, but they do have effective tools none the less that can be used as a bases for something far more dangerous, and if you disagree then just yank out the network cable and/or wifi card from your computer and see how long you function with a severed flow... which a full on cyber attack can do in the hands of the right people.

[citation][nom]amdchuck[/nom]It is a well known fact that the todays pornography industry creates it's fair share of victims and has hurt many people, lets not be naive about things.[/citation]
You mean like every else in life that involves people. Religion, Politics, Capitalism, Communism, Laws that are suppose to protect us, the Military, Healthcare, etc. Do you get it now! It isn't the idea but the people behind it that makes either work or dangerous.

I am sick of hearing this. With Comcast and other corporations trying to lock down on how much a user can use the net he pays for(often under the guise of unlimited access) its no wonder we aren't up in arms over here.
"So we will continue to promote the free flow of information, unfettered access to information, the ability to have virtual freedom of association."
Not if the money grabbers get there way. We will be downloading at below 56k for lower tier(aka didnt pay more to ISPs) and flying at whomever can pony up. Farce all over this deal.

USA Not Backing Down from Internet Freedom

I know the article refers to content, but still...Ironic, given how most ISPs treat their customers, and the ever more disturbing emerging trends coming from them.

Jeez what's with you ppl and your porn fixation.

You the 3 strikes policy w/ ISP's cutting internat access is bad?

In China, we have a 3 strikes policy called post something as simple as " the Chinese government is unfair and should be overthrown" 3 times and you'll get thrown in prison, not just have your internet cut off....

THIS is the issue, we couldn't care less about access to porn.

[citation][nom]Rab1d-BDGR[/nom]+1. Nail, on the head; you just hit it.The Chinese government is only pretending to crack down on port because it rstrips those who oppose it of any legitimacy. It is the same thing with the Australian black list - nobody can see what is actually being blocked, but we're told it is only for illigal pornography/paedophilia therefore anyone who opposes it "must be a pervert". It adds false legitimacy to the censorship whilst preventing any openness or oversight - a free pass for them to censor whatever they want whilst making it politically difficult to oppose without being tainted by insinuations.[/citation]

Conroy should be taken 'way up north and introduced to some of the excellent fishing to be had in a few billabongs that I know of...

Its a little hypocritical to say Internet should have freedom of information, then ask for net nuetrality that are regulations in place by the FCC that makes ISPs monitor internet usage for illegal activity.

[citation][nom]getalifeprude[/nom]Amdchuck open your eye's and don't believe everything they tell you at church. The porn industry hurts no one, and in fact is a benefit to society in many ways. Porn is truly safe sex.[/citation]

um yeah, ok....do you know me? I don't appreciate your insulting comments especially insinuating that I attend church, thats just low dude ;-)

Bottom line, the legitimate porn industry is not what I was referring to, I was referring to such things as kiddie porn and bestiality and stuff where there are unwilling victims involved....that is pornography, yes? and there are victims, yes? nuff' said.

While I may be not fully understanding what you are saying, but are you concluding that net neturality (where all packets are treated equally so that ISP can't throttle you) is the same as whats going on in CHina. Way off if you are.

I'm glad to see the US government starting to stand up a bit more here. Perhaps eventually, they'll stop caring so much about the lobbyists that get so much money from outsourcing to China that they'll actually start pressuring them to actually democratize, too.

I couldn't help but smile a little; even if the Federal Government does tons of things wrong, at least they do get some important things right.

I think you entirely misunderstand the whole idea of "net neutrality." As its name suggests, regulations to support it would be those that regulate ISPs and businesses to PREVENT them from restricting access, such as throttling certain types of traffic, or outright blocking some sites. (such as competitors)

In fact, it's opposing the Chinese Communist Party's practices and supporting Net Neutrality are one and the same: The Chinese government seeks to block and restrict the Internet, and so do ISPs. Big corporations are no better than big governments.

It has always been the victor or powerful who writes history. Whoever won a battle can write whatever he/she wants on how the battle transpired. China is filtering information which they believe corrupts the mind of its citizens (i.e. porn, events that encourage her people to revolt) in the same way the U.S. has dedicated organizations searching the net for Islamic websites and removing them. It's just a matter of perspective.

I'm sorry but likening porn to rape is wrong, insensible, misguided, and just plain ignorant. You might as well likened sex to rape. Please to your right winged views and keep them to yourself. The word "rape" should never be compared to porn or sex for that matter. Completely wrong and offensive.

[citation][nom]mlopinto2k1[/nom]Also, there is no eternal "soul". You don't burn in hell for eternity. You simply cease to exist. Your living being is your soul. (patiently waits to be "smacked down")[/citation]
I pity you. You'll get smacked down enough in future...
