Usb 3.0 port question.

Hello, I have a question concerning the installation of windows from a usb 3 port.
Is it necessary for the drivers for the port to be installed or not,before the installation from the flash drive.
I am asking because once i started to install the OS from a different port and halftrough the following error occured:
"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing." After I changed the port from the 2.0 to 3.0 and started the installation
again, the os installed succesfully.
Does that mean that the usb 3.0 port is meant for special circumstaces and does not necesarilly require drivers? I am using Dell Inspiron n5110 and I have drivers for the usb 3.0 port but i am just curious.

Mistake, I am not sure whether it is 3.0 or 2.0 port. It is on the left side of the lap top and when i tried to install the OS from there, it worked. Any idea why it happened that way?Why THAT port?

I literally just went to re-install windows and had the exact same thing happen. USB3.0 will be read in the BIOS, but it needs a proper driver to have full functionality.

The left side of my laptop is 2.0, and the right side is 3.0.

2.0 ports are Black, and 3.0 ports are Blue.

Currently, USB 3.0 requires drivers that are not packaged with the Windows 7 Installation disk, so it only has basic functionality.

Once windows finishes installing, you need to manually install the USB3.0 controller drivers to obtain full functionality.

What if after a fresh install of the OS (without having installed any drivers) i try to re-install it immediately again from the 2.0 port?It won't also again require driver but the install will go without any problems?

The mobo needs native support meaning an ib chipset. Then it would be able to install from a usb 3.0 port. If it is a third party controller then it will need drivers to function which requires an os. You have sb which is only native 2.0. It will never be able to install from a 3.0 slot.

BTW usb 3.0 is the blue one. And your right one is blue, the left one is black (2.0).

And having an os prier to installation is irrelevant. During the windows installation, there is no os. You are running off the usb device, a simple runtime.

What about my question above?Will I be able to reinstall the OS(from the 2.0 port) after a previous re-install without having installed any drivers(and without 2.0 driver too)?

It will always work on the 2.0 port because the chipset has native support. This has nothing to do with drivers. The error message is misleading.
