I think everyone overlooked something here. The article says usb "DEVICE". Not usb DRIVE specifically. This is more likely to be a usb thumb drive (memory stick) not a hard drive. They don't even make hard drives that small anymore (16gb).

hmmmm. Well after re-reading all the comments. I think "I" am the one who overlooked something. I read to much into what ppl were saying.... Think I'll just shut up now and move on LOL. sorry guys.

Well it's a start, but come back and tell us when a standard external hard drive will work for this purpose. Nonetheless, my 20GB drive is rather full and I'll take all the help it can get without paying for an over-priced "official" Xbox drive.

ZZZzzz, you can plud any external USB HD into a PS3 from the beginning. MS fanboys are like Democrats. They keep getting fed crap and keep taking it saying, "Thank you may I have another".

If you're talking about video and proper media archiving neither the Xbox OR the PS3 have anything like sufficient capacity - the xbox's 20/60/120/250 gb is woeful, and even the PS3 can only be upgraded to something like 750Gb - largest 2.5" drive available.

For media - in my opinion, the only sensible, future-proof and truly flexible way of doing things is with upgradeable centralised storage, after that, the 360 and Xbox are pretty much equivalent.

Finally! One $40 16GB USB Flash dongle, which you can find at any store is a better deal than one 512KB Xbox 360 Memory Unit which costs $50 and which you can't buy at any local store. Duh! It just makes sense besides the 16GB limit.

I have been running my 8gb thumb drives and a 160gb WD passport for movies on my xbox360 since the day I got it 2 years ago.
Use mac format HFS+ and your fine.
Just download Macdrive for PC.
It has always worked because MS wanted to support Ipods.

[citation][nom]thlillyr[/nom]Wait I'm confused can't you already plug in a normal thumbdrive and HDD as long as it's fat 32 formated?[/citation]
Yes, but it is recognized as just media storage. You cannot load your games from the disc onto it or use it for game saves and so on.
