Nice design, but there's one slight drawback to installing it on busses, at least in my country: Dozens of people fighting over one power socket, anyone? It would be epic.
I like the idea, but I too think this might cause issue on crowded trains. Having been to Japan and used their public transportation system, I'm certain it would be useful, but would spark competition for seating.
I'm sure this is just showing the prototype. I think they can assume that one plug at the very end of the bus wouldn't be enough. I'm sure several of these bars exists separately with about 3 or so handles on each one.
seems to expensive to implement for the added value. with the amount of electricity it takes to charge a small gadget you might just aswell take the power from a 12 volt plug powered by the engine like in any other normal car... with those small gadgets it will have no impact on performance, and be a lot cheaper to implement aswell.
Why don't they connect the plugs right into the buses electrical system? The drop in efficiency is minuscule, compared to the cost of buying, installing and maintaining power generating handles.
It would be such a minuscule amount of energy. The train could easily have generators attached to each wheel axle generating 1,000x more electricity. Retarded.
This would be perfect for Canada, most humble and respectful ppl anywhere, which is why fights wouldn't take place for silly things like "power sockets"
[citation][nom]ken64[/nom]why dont they just get this to power the bus.[/citation]
+1
Proponents will call this "consumer convinience", but I consider lower fares more convenient than anything else.

Sure, but wouldn't that drive down the efficiency of the bus? Generators are just going to add resistance to the wheels as they spin.
I think the point here is they want to create electricity from energy that is already being wasted. But I agree in that the amount of energy will be pretty small...
