using line-in from pc to pc

i need to have skype on my laptop because its annoying to go out into desktop when playing planetside 2 the pc goes Micheal Scofield on me if i do. my question is, is it safe for both computers to use output sound to line-in?

i have never done any audio-cable management since mid-school, and all i did was move speakers around

Bit confused about what you are trying to do, why are you trying to connect the laptop and desktop for audio and how? What do you want to accomplish? You want to use Skype on the laptop, what does that have to do with the desktop?
