My 2 year old Vaio laptop reached battery condition from excellent to good. At this stage i started noticing that my battery doesn't reach the status 100%-Not charging, but stays at 99%-charging. The charging LED also doesn't go off. Dont know if this is always the case when the battery begins to deteriorate.! The power management shows the following scale
Excellent-->Good-->Poor-->Critical.
Any help would be really great.
Thank you very much in advance..!

This is pretty typical behavior. As batteries age, their capacity fluctuates (decreases, mostly). Your computer does adjust but sometimes not fast enough to keep this sort of thing from happening. While it says 99%, the battery is actually as full as it can get under the current conditions. If you charge it while it is cool or turned off, it may be able to get just a little bit more charge, but eventually, your computer will lower the capacity it expects to match what your battery can hold.

Hello Mr.Calculagator,

My laptop is now going only till 87%. Does it mean it's degrading so fast? or what does it mean again? Normally if i compare the behavior of laptops of my friends. Every laptop seems to charge till 100 % but discharges very quickly which is normal with aging of laptops. However in my case its both (not charging to full and discharging fast)

It's hard to say. Your power supply could be failing or your battery. If its not too expensive for a new one, I would replace your battery. You can usually find good prices on ebay and amazon. Just plug in the model number that printed on the battery.
