verizon disconnected my phone, can I use it and the same number with straightalk

Problem with keeping my cell number with Verizon. I have had my cell # for years and Verizon disconnected my services for being behind on the payment. Can I just take my Samsung Galaxy S6 and my cell # and go buy a Straightalk SIM card?
