Uhm, we like living with open spaces and larger homes. We like traveling long distances for family vacations. Americans love driving. Further, your higher per capita income and vacation, college, and health care don't include MUCH higher taxes that come with them on said income than we pay in the US. Everything comes with a cost. Besides, I don't see Europe's doors being blown down by illegal immigration and legal immigration as we deal with here in America. So obviously, we're doing SOMETHING right.
