vertical lines running down computer randomly, whats the cause??

I recently purchased an Acer Laptop. It has vertical lines that appear on laptop screen randomly. What could be causing this? The person who sold me the laptop said its just a clinch in the computer?? Can anyone give me more insight?

If you see lines appear on the lcd, it could mean that the LCD cable is loose, or it could mean that the video card is getting hot.
It could mean other things also, like a bad LCD monitor, the bezel is latched on too tight, bending the bottom of the lcd, etc.
