I am looking for a laptop with a battery backup in excess of 13 hours on normal workloads. WiFi will be kept in "Off" mode. Doesn't matter whether the device is heavy or light. We are basically researching for a project where we need 1000 such units. Can somebody provide some insight? Lastly, please ensure that your recommendation comes with either Win 7/8 Professional. I am looking for a max price per device of $700.

It is possible to get in excess of 13 hours on normal workloads in certain laptops, but it will cost you in excess of $700 per unit. For example, the Lenovo ThinkPad 14" T430 and 15.6" T530 are rated up to 16.2 hours and 15.4 hours, respectively, with the optional 9 cell battery. The base models cost $849, but when...
Best battery life is in Ultrabooks .....

The Toshiba Z835-P330 claimed battery life of 8 hours came out at 7 hours 35 minutes.

PC Magazine's Editot's Choice Asus Zenbook UX31 came in at 6 hours 32 minutes "because of its solid construction, stellar audio, and better performance"

Macbook Air came in at 5 hours 46 minutes

Ofcourse mainstream notebooks can be equipped with spare batteries and some even hold 2 two but on ultrabooks, the battery is generally not offered as "user replaceable"

The base models cost $849, but when the e-coupon is applied the base price drops down to $721.65. The 9 cell battery will add $50 to the total cost, Win 7 / 8 Pro will add another $50 for a total estimated price of $821.65. Plus any other upgrades you may want.

Naturally, if you are going to be purchasing 1000's of laptops, then you need to open business account with Lenovo and see what type of price you can negotiate. The e-coupon code may not be applicable in this situation, but since you are make a bulk order, the price per unit should be less than $821.65.

I had read that claim but never found it supported in testing .... unfortunately most of that testing is done w/ WiFi on which OP says is not on the table.

On the LAPTOP Battery Test, (Web surfing over Wi-Fi with the display at 40 percent), the ThinkPad T530's 6-cell lithium ion battery lasted an impressive 6 hours and 39 minutes. That's more than an hour longer than the mainstream notebook category average of 5:29. If you need even more juice, Lenovo offers an optional 9-cell battery for an additional $50.

If we assume that the 9 cell does 1.5 times the 6 cell.....im getting just about 10 hours on the 9 cell .... again w/ WiFi.... but in test below they did much better.

Head-to-head, the T530 with a 9-cell battery destroyed the Latitude E5530 on the LAPTOP Battery Test (continuous surfing on the Web via Wi-Fi), lasting a herculean 11 hours and 13 minutes, compared to 8 hours and 39 minutes on the E5530.
