I have a Compaq cq57-214nr notebook which has a VGA output only. I want to connect it to the HDMI input on my TV. Do I need a converter or will an adapter cable be sufficient? Could not seem to find an answer at hp.

I've seen vga to hdmi cables out there...yet I've also seen many claims that those don't work. I would just get a proper adapter, makes sense anyway since it needs to convert a component analog signal to digital. Heres an example one:

Do you need audio too? If so, that'll depend on whether your TV has a headphone style input or RCA audio (red and white). If headphone, then a simple 3.5 mm audio male to male cable will do: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/6-mini-stereo-audio-cable/2354083.p?id=1218322740190&skuId=2354083&st=audio%20cable&cp=1&lp=6

Otherwise, rca to 3.5 mm will be needed...
