Solved! Video freezes

The video keeps freezing during playback, every 30 min or so. Gives a buzzing noise then carries on playing after 10-30 seconds of buzzing. No issue with Netflix or other web-based movie provider; just when I play files actually stored on my PC.

This started after I recently installed Windows 10 on my old HTPC. I reinstalled all the drivers; seems to have helped a bit by making the buzzing shorter and quieter but didn’t solve it. Tried playing via different software - same issue. Tested RAM; the system says no errors.

Hardware:

• Sandy bridge i3-2100T @2.50GHz(LGA 1155) 35W with integrated onboard 3D video
• ASROCK H67M-GE/HT (B3) LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Inel Motherboard
• G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT

Check the temperature of the CPU while the video is freezing (with tool "coretemp")

Check the windows event manager for errors

Temperature is fine and so is the hard drive.

Event Viewer is reporting periodic problems with Genie Timeline. That’s not something I recall installing. Nor does it appear in the add or remove program list, but I found the Genie9 folder, so it’s there. Gennie error events come in a variety of types, e g 7031 and 1000.

Another error I am seeing is 1020 Perflib, to do with the buffer size.
And finally, event 69 - AppModel-runtime.
Our internet is quite bad right now; not coping with the loads. I am wondering if the app is trying to download something in the background, isn’t getting it and is causing issues.

check windows integrity

Is an uninstaller exe in the genie9 folder?

which app is the problem in the event 69 issue? Should be like:

Malware bytes hasn’t found anything major.

With Slimdrivers I updating my PC to new drivers. I don't use Malware bytes yet.

go to the manufacturer website to download drivers. don't use tool like that.

how full is the ssd?

I see that Windows 10 does not seem to provide a driver for my GPU. Is there anything
I can do short of replacing it?
Memory and storage are ok.

And if I were to add new GPU, could you suggest something compatible and cheap that would work for watching videos?

in device manager right click on the hd200 and click on update driver there

if the SSD is almost full and not much space is left, this could be the problem as well.

The drivers are up to date and both disks have plenty of space... Ordered the GPU; let’s see if that helps.

It would appear that the problem has been solved. Must have been the absence of Windows 10 driver for the on-board graphics card.
