I'm going to build my first pc around December because my gaming laptop has a ton of viruses on it, but now i'm worried my new pc will get infected with viruses, so I need some advice to prevent my pc from getting viruses.

Solution

BitDefender
MalwareBytes
Grey matter that exists between your ears. Which is how your laptop got "a ton of viruses on it" in the first place.

I can't remember the last time I had malicious software in my PC. Common sense is really the only fool-proof way of protecting a PC. Those questionable sites, including some torrent sites will happily serve up something malicious to those who visit. Keep to the reputable sites and you won't get that stuff.

Made me think of Dr. Lector serving Ray.

Thanks for the mention clarkjd. OP, Avast Free utilizes many detection features of our premium options and is highly rated (in both detections and performance!) as well as giving a lot more than just the basics ;)

See: https://www.av-comparatives.org for independent testing results, and https://www.avast.com/nextgen for more about how Avast works, if you're curious. Happy to answer any questions.
