Question Vizio 5.1 and Sharp 60 Aquas smart tv

We just bought a vizio 5.1 sound bar hooked it up sound plays great when watching cable tv but when I play netflix on my sharp 60 Aquas smart tv I have to turn off my cable because the sound from the cable continues to play through the sound bar, and i cannot get any sound from what I am watching on netflix to come through the sound bar. I used the HDMI ARC to connect. Any help would be great.

Is the soundbar connected to the TV or to the cable box? Also if you are not using the cable box, why would you keep it on anyway?
