Warped disc - what to do?

I recieved a pile of discs today, 4 in one package and a single on it's
own, the 4 appear to be fine (haven't checked as they're still sealed)
but the individual one arrived warped :( I think it was due to the
packaging as the sender didn't use a proper postal envelope, just
cardboard cut, folded & taped up to hell and back.

Not going to put it in the player as I don't want to damage anything, I
think I read in my player manual to put some heavy books on it for a week
before playing it, what does everyone else do to un-warp discs?

cheers,

I would do a Google search through old posts in this forum, as the topic
has come up before. I believe a week of flattening isn't going to cut
it. Most people recommend a couple of months. Unless the disc is rare,
you might need to just write it off.

It's D.A.R.Y.L. widescreen, the disc has been out of the postal packaging
for a while now and the warp doesn't look as bad as it originally did -
even then it was only a slight warp and didn't look like a Pringle. I
tried it in the player and it played no problems :)

Hello Rid,
as far as I know, the solution is right, but only for little warps...

Put a paper sheet onto a FLAT surface (better is a glass), then
put the laserdisc WITHOUT the cover, put another paper sheet
(the sheets are there to prevent damages to the surfaces of the disc),
then put a heavy item on it - one or more huge books will do the
work, but ONLY if they are larger than the disc... if not, put another
flat surface (another glass will be better) and then put the heavy item.

Hope I wrote the right procedure here. Kurtis or some other
experienced user will confirm it (I hope!).

Ciao,
Andrea

Thanks for the replies people, the warp isn't as bad as I first thought
(must try not to be too analytical before breakfast ;) and the player
played the disc fine, but I'm still going to put some weight on it to
flatten it out a bit more.

It should be noted that the paper you use must be CLEAN paper. Don't
use any old newspapers or anything with ink or other foreign
substances on the paper.
