What TV do you have? Most modern TVs don't use the regular channels with a set top box like U-verse.
Go to the MENU for the TV, select input, then select the input that your U-verse box is attached to.

As clarkjd says it would normally be connected to an input rather than a channel. The remote would have a button labeled
input, source, or maybe TV/Video.
If your uverse box is connected to the antenna connection of the TV it would usually be on either channel 3 or 4.
