What does root do to your phone

I have an avant and when I try to download apps I get the message that I don't have enough space I have just put in a 32GB SD CARD there is nothing on it .

The message is in relation to your actual fone memory ... on the device. To free up space uninstall some of the applications you do not use, and clear the cache for the applications you only use infrequently. Check the actual memory on your fone to see how much space you freed up after this.
