Hi. I bought a laptop mainly for web browsing, office and other stuff like that. But I wonder what games can i run at playable fps. Here are the specs: i5-4210M, 4GB of RAM, integrated HD 4600 video card.
If you played some games on this config, can you tell me your experience? I know a laptop shouldn't be used for gaming, but I was on a short budget and I needed a portable PC.
I'm looking to play games like FIFA15, LoL (which I know I can play it at medium settings), and maybe GTA V. It would be a dream.

Solution
I have played the following games using the Intel HD 4400 (less powerful than the Intel HD 4600) on my laptop. I disabled the dedicated Radeon HD 8850m graphics chip. All games are played at 1600x900 resolution.

Mass Effect 3
Star Trek Online
Skyrim (with lots of tweaks to the SkyrimPrefs.ini file like disabling shadows)

Of the 3 games Skyrim runs the worst. Running around in Whiterun performance ranged between 30 FPS - 46 FPS. Running around in the open world ranges between 25 FPS - 34 FPS.

Star Trek Online does have performance drops, but much of that has to do with server lags and missions with an overwhelming number of enemies (in space or on ground).

Fallout 3 should be playable as well since I played that game for around 8...

On Intel HD 4600, if you keep graphical fidelity to low/medium @720p, reasonable gaming experience is possible.

Check this video in which the guy plays a wide variety of games on HD 4000, with slightly inferior specs than yours.

This is his feedback on those games:

1 - Battlefield 3 - Playable on Windowed Mode only, buggy on Fullscreen.
2 - Orc Must Die 2 - Perfectly Playable
3 - Dead Island - Playable
4 - Blacklight : Retribution - Playable
5 - Metro 2033 - Playable
6 - Alan Wake Americans Nightmare - A bit playable
7 - Darksiders 2 - Playable,but no settings.
8 - Need For Speed The Run - Unoptimized, but playable only on 640x400 xD
9 - Sniper Elite v2 - Playable
10 - Spec Ops The Line - Playable

So most of the games, you should be able to play with decent frames, as you've a slightly better processor with Intel HD 4600 on-board graphics. Having said that 8GB RAM is recommended to achieve any decent gaming experience.

Cheers!

Hi,

The Intel HD Graphics takes resources from your CPU and RAM which is why it is not recommended for gaming.

I found a small list here on Intel's website but with the specs you have you should be able to play fifa , LoL maybe GTA depending on the settings like yeskay said.

Enjoy!

Fallout 3 should be playable as well since I played that game for around 8 hours to test the performance of the older Intel HD 3000 graphics core before switching over to the dedicated nVidia GT 550m in my Lenovo IdeaPad Y470. But you will need the following file to get the game up and running.

The following Youtube channel, SurfaceProGamer, has a lot of gameplay footage of games (including current games) being played on Surface Pro 2 with a Core i5-4200u and the Intel HD 4400 (there are other Surface devices as well). All videos are recorded with an external capture device (no software like FRAPS) so you are seeing the actual performance. You should get better performance.

Minecraft Maxed out even with a 256 bit texture pack.

War Thunder Medium settings

I use 768p,
Intel HD 4000, which is waaaay weaker than 4600

I have found that having >4gb ram helps a lot. Maybe get a set of 2 4gb sticks at 1600mhz cas 9? - faster ram helps intel HD graphics a lot, too.
