I was trying to rip some very old home-videos DVDs I made 20 years ago. When the DVD player was having trouble reading the video files, and never finish the transfer to ISO imagen, using WinX.

I have tried with 5 different software, and 3 different DVD external drives! And I haven’t got it.

My PC is a Microsoft Surface Pro 9, with Windows 11, so, because it is almost a tablet, I have bought DVD drives with external power supply.
So, what is the best external DVD drive for transfer old DVD home-videos?

Old DVDs can wear out, the writable ones use pigment and over time that can bleed or fade. Since you tried 3 different drives there is a good chance the issue is with the disks. Pioneer makes good drives if you want to try a 4th, as did Plextor but I think that company is no longer what it used to be.

Hi hang-the-9,
First of all thank you so much,
Yes, a combination of a couple old fashion DVD drives have been effective to get the transferring.
Finally, I used a Asus external driver with a Roofull external driver, using software like WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, combine with IsoBuster. it Works!!

Thanks again,
