What is the best way to remotely run windows?

I'd like to build a desktop for gaming, but in the next year or two I'll be going off to collage, and will probably need a laptop. Is there a way that i can run windows on my desktop remotely from another computer, maybe from the browser? I'd really like to get a cheap Chromebook, and run windows applications from my home pc, if thats possible.

I think Citrix would work ( http/www.citrix.com/products/gotomypc/overview.html?ntref=prod_biz)
but thats $100/yr. Is there a cheaper way?

Take a look at LOGMEIN and TEAMVIEWER8. They both have a free version for non-commercial use.

Depending on your version of windows, you can also use the built in remote desktop.
