Most screens aren't 1080p. Also,1920x1080 is usually called Full HD; HD is 1280x720.

For an average laptop, you're usually looking at 1366x768. For a desktop, probably 1600x900 or 1680x1050.

simple pc monitor does not really give a lot of info. It's like asking what is the top speed of a simple car.

Monitors have had HD spec resolutions for a long time before TVs got them, difference is that they were in 3:4 ratio instead of the 16:9 or so that wide screen monitors have.

A "simple" monitor can go from 640x480 up to 1280x1024, that is about when the wide screen monitors started getting popular.
