What kind of speaker wires do my intercom speakers have?

I have one of those typical round ceiling speakers. It has two thick cables going out from it. Removing the coating from it, each of them have 8 smaller copper wires with their own coating.

How can i connect this to my stereo amp or anything for that matter? This looks so much more complicated than the simple positive and negative terminals.

I would not cut into those wires, or connect a stereo amp to it.

If the wires come together to two terminals you should have no problem just make sure to keep the same polarity. That means that the plus of the speaker goes to the plus of the amp and the same for the minus. Sounds like someone used some exotic wire.
