I really like the xps but not sure which size is better 13 or 15

If your planning taking it to class for notes, the 13. If you want to have enough room to comfortably do what you gotta do and don't mind the weight, get the 15.

"laptop good for college" is about as ambiguous as "which is car is good for driving"

Depending on what your major is (and hobbies) makes a HUGE difference on what laptop is best for you.

If you are simply asking about screen size that is user preference. I had used 15.x laptops for a good 10 years and then got my 13". I initially figured I would be bugged by the small screen but it did not bother me at all and the small size is very nice. With that said I have personally used the new dell xps 13 and find it uncomfortable to type on and is too small for my tastes (fyi my current laptop is a lenovo yoga pro) but I am also 6ft 3in guy so what is small to me may be perfect to others.

In regards to what size/factor is right for you....the best thing you can do is go look at as many different laptop models in person as you can to get a feel for it.

im going to med school and the laptop will be used to take notes in class and when i get back to my dorm hook it up to an external monitor

If this is only used to take notes then the dell xps is not worth the money. I would recommend a low end windows laptop or a chromebook.

I am looking for a good laptop for college that has a good battery life (more than 7 hours) good for note taking and able to play some games. Also a good port selection so i can hook it up with an external monitor in my dorm

...from 2 kids in college, experience. With all the other great things, do NOT get a super thin one. the screen will get broken.
