What network media streamer / NAS combo should I go for?

I've been using a Boxee Box for watching my digital movie collection sitting on a 6TB WD MyBook Live Duo for ages now. Since the Boxee is getting slow and HD space is running out, I have been looking at different possibilities.

I would really appreciate your opinions/experiences on the two options below, or a different suggestions. I only want play my local content (1080p mkvs mostly) and would like to use kodi.

The first option would be to get the new Slice media player (http/fiveninjas.com/#slice) and add a bigger NAS solution like the WD My Cloud EX4 20TB (http/www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1170) or a similarly sized Synology NAS.

The second option ist going for the QNAP TS-451 16TB (https/www.qnap.com/i/en/product/model.php?II=143), which should be able to run kodi and stream the content by itself through hdmi.

Appreciate any thoughts,contributions or experiences!

I like to have the option of using a browser instead of Kodi because some websites have been placed behind Cloudflare so you can't access them through Kodi. You can't see the adds through Kodi and that costs them money. More options for file playback like VLC too.
