What software needs to be installed on a newly built computer?

I am about to build my first computer and was wondering what software i need to install besides the OS and device drivers.

just any application programs you might want to run along with any games you plan on playing

Whenever I set one up for someone I install VLC, MS Security, Firefox, and a cracked version of Multiple Monitors (for those that mention they have 2 monitors) all free and have worked for me.. so far.

An alternatvie browser other than IE, alternative media player other than WMP, and a free antivirus like MSE, aVast or Avira. Some graphic editing software and computer utility software are not really necessities but you might need them as well.

Okay, so that's all obvious stuff i would have installed, but its good to know i didnt forget anything crucial
