well at the very least you'd have to get a new mobo. the sandy bridge series of i5/i7 chips (as well as i3) are all lga 1155 sockets, meaning you have to get an lga 1155 mobo in order to put the chip in. so p67, z68, z77 mobos are all fine.

 
Since this is in the laptop section what you need to turn a Core Duo laptop into a Core i5/i7 laptop is to simply buy a new laptop.

Laptops are not like desktop PCs. There are no standard motherboard format across many different laptops. That's because the size laptop chassis (the case) is different from brand name to brand name. And even within the brand name it can be different from model to model. Think of laptops as having a "custom" motherboard design for each model.
