What would be a fair price for PC work?

I have a HP Laptop that the bios set a password power on. Took me 3Hrs to get in the back door to reset the password, then the file system would not boot on a partition so I got to the partition and run chkdsk and for 10hrs its been repairing. the partition is 250gb and it saying that its repairing invalid security id with default security id for file #####. If this doesn't work replacing HDD OS/Recovery Partition system image and other software, drivers updates and network what do you think this should cost including whats all ready been done. John

I know a lot of people who charge $50 up front to even look at a computer, and then around $50 an hour after the first hour.

Google "average price per hour computer repair," and you'll get an idea.

I'd view the job as a set price one, its down to your expertise and knowledge to do it quickly thereby increasing the pay for you, see it as say a $50 job, if you do it in 20 mi utes all good and onto the next, if you take 17 hours then you are lowering your hourly rate yourself, its your job to fix it but its your responsibility to yourself to do it quickly, set limits for jobs and know to say when your 'beat' hehe, I'd be driven to do it my own self because I hate being beaten but as for charging someone to do it, there has to be a sensible limit
