What would be the cause for a phone USB port not to work

Hello, I have a problem with my phone USB port, charging it is even a problem, whats the problem n how can it be fixed.

Could be broken, you can fix it by replacing the port, although it may cost as much as a new phone to do that. Those ports tend to loosen up over time.

thanx alot. funny thing is it works when i switch my phone off when its plugged in then switch it back on again.....

That could just be moving the connection a bit and making contact. Does it connect to a computer with no issues? Is it only charging? What if you move the cable around a bit, does the charge light come on? Have you tried a different charger?

Yeah when u connect it with a computer it works well and when u move the charger around it works. The charging light has no problem..

what phone is it ?
Does the usb seem broken or just not working, I know of a few phones with this problem.

Its an xperia x8.

that whole line is notorious for that, it will only charge sometimes and when it does it is incredibly slow.
